Mansfield, Mike, 1903-2001

Mike Mansfield was an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative, a U.S. Senator, and the Senate Majority Leader. Mansfield was a member of the Vietnam Lobby, which supported Ngô Đình Diệm’s rise to prime minister in July 1954. After visiting Vietnam in 1962, Mansfield’s opinion on the war turned negative, and he became one of the first American officials to hold an unfavorable stance to the war.
